CARY, N.C. — March 5, 2013 — Intuit Health, the healthcare unit of Intuit Inc (Nasdaq: INTU) and leader in patient engagement and patient portals will be demonstrating the integrated Blue Button capabilities of the Intuit Health Patient Portal at the 2013 HIMSS Annual Conference in New Orleans, March 4-6. At the invitation of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), Florida Health Care Plans and Community Care Physicians (CCP), will showcase the power of patients transmitting their electronic health record summary as part of the Intuit Health patient portal at the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase.
ONC’s Automatic Blue Button Initiative is designed to advance access of both computer and human readable health data securely through electronic health records, increasing the likelihood of adoption of enhanced technology tools available to engage consumers.
“Blue Button has become a universal symbol for advancement in consumer engagement and patients are demanding enhanced access to their healthcare data,” said Sanjiv Waghmare, vice president and general manager of Intuit Health. “Our integrated patient portal provides the perfect platform for patients to have greater access to data through Blue Button+, while also driving practice efficiency and enabling higher patient engagement to meet Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements.”
Meaningful Use 2, a mandate developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Incentive Programs and ONC, can be better achieved through the use of Blue Button+. Organizations are required to provide consumers with the ability to view, download and transmit data to third party applications, a functionality Blue Button+ accomplishes with great success.
“Blue Button+ is a blueprint for providing access to structured and secure health information to developers that build on the view, download and transmit requirements of Meaningful Use Stage 2,” said Farzad Mostashari, MD, the office of national coordinator for health IT.
Intuit Health plans to support ONC’s Automatic Blue Button Initiative, Blue Button+ standards and the continued advancement of data accessibility and engagement of healthcare consumers.
